Museum of Modern Art Museums we visited:
MoMA: Museum of Modern Art
Forbes Gallery
Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven
Guggenheim Museum

Finally I could go to the Museum of Modern Art at 11 W. 53rd Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues! I was waiting many years to come to this museum, because it hosts some of the paintings I love the most. They host a collection of the Abstract Expressionists Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman and Jackson Pollock. And Barnett Newman was the painter who opened my heart and my eyes for art: his painting Who is afraid if Red, Yellow and Blue caught me at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam many years before. I found 2 of his paintings in MoMA's permanent collection and was very moved.
Jackson Pollock They don't exhibit all the paintings I hoped to see, only 3 paintings by Mark Rothko and 2 by Newman. To the left you see one of the most famous works of Jackson Pollock, the father of Action Painting . T
There are some interesting exhibitions in the moment:
Jasper Johns Jasper Johns: A Retrospective, which is well documented at the MoMA website, you can find some great reproductions there.
Antonin Artaud: Works on Paper, which were mostly done during his hospital stays. Anton Artaud
General Idea The General Idea Project was not so interesting to me, because I have seen one of their exhibitions in Hamburg at the Deichtorhallen and I was not so convinced by their art. But if you want to download an interesting ScreenSaver, just go the MoMA web page.
The pictures are taken from the museum's website, which is worth a visit.
The Forbes Magazine Galleries at 62 Fifth Avenue, between 12th and 13th Streets host Malcolm Forbe's crazy, eccentric collection of toys and american memorabilia. 500 toy boats, 12,000 tin soldiers and a collection of Monopoly games from over the world, mixed with christmas cards of american presidents and personal papers and correspondence by presidential First Families.
A real american collection!

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum hosts the ELLSWORTH KELLY RETROSPECTIVE since October 18, 1996 and it will end January 19, 1997. It was worth seeing it, but I tend to follow the Abstract Expressionist's opinion, that he was just filling shades with color. I was not satisfied with this exhibition and I was disappointed also because I expected to see some works of Rebecca Horn and Jenny Holzer. But these works are not exhibited permanently. At least I could buy a Rebecca Horn Catalogue there. Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

During our short stay at New Haven, Connecticut, we visited the Yale University Art Gallery where we saw an exhibition of British Treasures from the Saint Petersburg Eremitage. I was surprised and happy to see Cameron's preliminary drawings of the interior of the Catherine's Palace in Carskoe Celo, a place where my heart is.
