This label is not active anymore, but this must not hinder you to read about the phantastic CDs which Peter Motovilov published!
is the name of Peter Motovilov's label. He is one of the few people who devote all material surplus (and more) to their obsession, and his obsession is to produce very sophisticated CD's:
Vladimir Tarasov
ATTO I, "SOMETHING HAS HAPPENED AGAINST THE MARINE BACKGROUND" percussion, drums SN001CD The first ATTO by Vladimir Tarasov opens a series of the eight works composed and played by "a master of percussion ceremonies". Tarasov the marininist creates his own acoustic landscape between the earth and the skies, the earth and the sea, ... the metallic body of cymbals and drum's air column ... Nick Dmitriev |
Vladimir Tarasov
ATTO II, "MONOTYPES" percussion, drums, tabla, Yamaha Tx7, Roland Octapad (Tonegenerator) Roland TR-707 SN002CD This disk features eight pieces, performed by Vladimir Tarasov. "Vladimir Tarasov's sound monotypes ideally should have been issued in one copy, as he craves for uniqueness of creativity in art and musical moment... You should listen to hi second acoustic action, an installation of a sonorous space... you should see Vladimir Tarasov's ATTO II sound graphics. Nick Dmitriev |
Vladimir Tarasov
ATTO III, "DRUM THEATRE" percussion, drums, electronic devices SN003CD You hear the voice of that epoch, old and scratchy exactly like those recordings of the ten popular optimistic songs that can be heard on the background of Tarasov's solo on percussion. "Drum Theatre is an aesthetic understanding of totalitarism and its overthrow. Drum Theatre is a message from the end of the 80s to the 30s; from the present to the past. In art time does not always flow in one direction. Nick Dmitriev |
Vladimir Tarasov
ATTO IV percussion, drums, hunting horn, electronic devices SN004CD The famous Lithuanian jazz player Vladimir Tarasov presents the example of mature musical thinking, combining intellect and feeling, sounds and colours, thoughts and rhythms. Of course, this music can not and should not satisfy all tastes. Still, this is a sound acchievement that enriches that universal expression of our century's spirit which we call modern improvised music |
Vladimir Tarasov
ATTO V percussion, drums, electronic devices SN005CD This work by Vladimir Tarasov is the fifth 'action' in a serie of ATTOs presenting musical monologues, diverse in themes and means of expression. This composition seems to be written and performed all in one breath. "ATTO V consists of a synthesizer tape, playing ostinato motifs and providing a rhythmic springboard, and percussion drums" "Cadence", #6 1994) |
Vladimir Tarasov
ATTO VII "A LITTLE PIECE FOR CHILDREN IN SIX PARTS" percussion, drums, electronic devices SN006CD Vladimir Tarasov performs six original compositions using various kinds of percussion and drums. Each piece is played on a single instrument which takes all energetic power for itself. It is plain and laconic, music which makes listener think about the sources of music in general. Subtitled "A little piece for children" ATTO VI sporadically scores with its modestly charming evocation of child-like wonder. "Cadence", #8 1994) |
Vladimir Tarasov and Ilya Kabakov
ATTO VII, "WATERMUSIC" Installation SNOO7CD This music was specially composed for the installation 'Incident in the Museum, or Water Music', designed for Ronald Feldman Gallery in New York. The subject of the installation in the following: an exhibition of works by the famous artist Koshelev is taking place in a provincial Russian museum. All is ready for the opening. Suddenly an extremely unpleasant incident occures at the museum. Drops and streams of water are falling down from the ceiling in the two rooms. The staff place buckets, bowls and jars on the floor to catch the water, and the ruined opening turned into a different event. |
Vladimir Tarasov
ATTO VIII, "SONORE" percussion, drums SN008CD This particular disk features the eighth in a series of compositions for solo percussion. "Sonore" means sound and this piece is really about the relationship between sound and silence.. There is a long section in part II during which Tarasov plays only the splash cymbal, building up the intensity, building the wave of the sound. "Cadence" #2 1994 |
Vladimir Tarasov & Lithuanian Art Orchestra
WALTZ ATTO SN009CD Waltzatto presents a debute recording of the Lithuanian Art Orchestra consisting of 12 Lithuanian musicians directed by Vladimir Tarasov. The piece features brillant combination of composing and improvising realised in powerful and dynamic music. Nick Dmitriev |
Roman Dubinnikov
SAND BOX vocal, percussion, guitar, stildrum, sampler cassette only SN010MC Solo work by the multi-instrumentalist Roman Dubinnikov (Russia) is based on the music produced and recorded for the DEREVO theatre, one of the famous post-modernist theatres in the world. |
Vladimir Tarasov and Ilya Kabakov
OLGA GEORGIEVNA, SOMETHING IS BURNING! CONVERSATION IN A COMMUNAL KITCHEN Performance SN011CD This performance is a musical improvisation of two participants who are simultaneously playing 'musical instruments' (kitchen utensils, knives, forks, etc.) and reading extracts which are fragments from the conversation of several women cooking in the kitchen. This is a small encyclopedia of everyday Soviet life. |
Vladimir Tarasov and Dmitrij Prigov
KANTATOS Performance SN012CD The joint work of Vladimir Tarasov and Dmitrij Prigov has its roots primarely in the aesthetics of Moscow post-modernist art of the past, few decades. Thus D. Prigov uses various styles, from the official 'Soviet Realism' tinged with communist ideology to radical avant-garde, plain and clear; while Vladimir Tarasov moves freely from one musical language to the another. |
Roman Dubinnikov
RASTEVI vocal, percussion, acoustic guitar, stilldrum, hooter, vargan, ROLAND S-50, artillery cartridge shell CD013CD This is surprisingly natural combination of Tartar and Russian folk music, rock and jazz-rock rhythms with hearty confession of the bardic songs. |
Vyacheslav Ganelin - Vladimir Tarasov - Vladimir Chekassin
CON ANIMA Vjacheslav Ganelin, piano, basset Vladimir Tarasov, percussion, drums Vladimir Chekassin, alto saxophone, clarinet, chalumeau SN014CD Con Anima, released in the spring of 1977, was the first Ganelin trio published by Melodia. It played a revolutionary role in changing the jazz conciousness in the country. Disciplined and free flowing, complex and childishly playful, the record with a nearly mythical aura is a real milestone in the contemporary jazz history in the former USSR. |
Vyacheslav Ganelin - Vladimir Tarasov - Vladimir Chekassin
CONCERTO GROSSO Vjacheslav Ganelin, piano, bells, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, trombone, tambourine Vladimir Tarasov, percussion, drums, trumpet, rabob Vladimir Chekassin, saxophones: alto, tenor, baritone; ocarina, tenor % soprano flutes, clarinet, violin SN015CD Concerto Grosso, the Ganelin trio second record on Melodia, was originally released in 1980. Classically precise and stylistically perfectly balanced, Concerto Grosso is a 'studio' work more than any other Ganelin album. Like nowhere before or after, musicians experimented with the recording studio. |
Vyacheslav Ganelin - Vladimir Tarasov - Vladimir Chekassin
POI SEQUE... Vjacheslav Ganelin, piano, basset, guitar, bugle, flute Vladimir Tarasov, percussion, flute Vladimir Chekassin, saxophones, trombone, flute, percussion, violin SN016CD POI SEQUE ... is probably the 'jazziest', or rather 'free jazzy' - that is swinging, loose and freeflowing of the Ganelin Trio studio recordings. It was recorded by the trio's tenth anniversary in 1981 and originally released by Melodia in 1982. |
Vyacheslav Ganelin - Vladimir Tarasov
OPUS A DUO Vjacheslav Ganelin, piano, electric organ, accordeon, end-blown flute, basset-horn, double-bassm guitar, percussion Vladimir Tarasov, percussion, drums, end-blown flute SN017CD Recorded in 1982 Opus a Duo was the first documented evidence of the great Ganelin Trio breakup. The trio's history made a full circle and returned to the original point - the Ganelin-Tarasov Duo. This quiet, sad and melancholic album is a swan song and at the same time a step into the future. |
Vyacheslav Ganelin - Vladimir Tarasov - Vladimir Chekassin
SEMPLICE Vjacheslav Ganelin, acoustic piano, keyboard, basset, "Casiotone", hunting horn, percussion Vladimir Tarasov, "Sonor" drums, percussion Vladimir Chekassin, alto saxophone, trombone, end-blown flute, percussion SN018CD Semplice is the most mature and probably the most tragic of the Ganelin Trio homemade releases. The studio recording reproduces the dramatic sequence of events on stage during the concert performances of the same piece. Recorded and published by Melodia in 1983 it was the last of the Ganelin Trio records released in the USSR. |
Vladimir Tarasov & Thundering Dragon Percussion Group
