Biographical Notes
- Early 1980's - Nikolai Dmitriev actively participated in many aspects of artistic life in Moscow. This included the organization of concerts and festivals in small clubs, and reading lectures in various auditoriums covering subjects on traditional and contemporary music.
- 1984 - Dmitriev published his first article on music in a periodical journal. This led to a successful period of music journalism including essays, reviews and interviews. These appeared in daily journals, newspapers and specialized periodicals.
- Mid 1980's - He began to organize concerts and festivals beyond Moscow including Volgograd, Ekaterinburg, Smolensk and the provinces of Moscow.
- Late 1980's - Early 1990's - His concert and festival productions started to take shape from folklore to modern classical and avant-garde. During the same period a similar output level stretches to lectures and music reviews throughout the country. This includes a course of lectures "The theory and history of music", which was instigated in several higher educational institutes in Moscow. As well as this has read lectures on the theoretical problems of improvised music at music conferences.
- 1990 - Dmitriev broadcasts jazz programs on Russian radio.
- 1991 - He became joint producer of a monthly television jazz program "Jazz Time". He also joined the musicians union and the society of alternative literature.
- 1992 - He produced several documentaries on jazz for Russian television. He co-founded the "Cotton Club", a riverboat jazz club on the Moscow river.
- 1993 - 1994 - Dmitriev worked as active organizer of music festivals in Russia with a special emphasis on introducing more of European dimension in many major cities. These years was master of ceremonies at two Russian-German Festivals in Hamburg and Berlin. Introduced regular contemporary music concerts in conjunction with Russian TV, "Forward to the Past" , which has become a popular program.
- 1994 - 1995 - Nikolai Dmitriev became producer and manager of the Moscow Composers Orchestra. The group toured twice in Europe, performing in Lithuania, Germany, Italy, Finland, Russia and Switzerland. MCO has three CD’s, "Kings and Cabbages", "An Italian Love Affair" (Leo Records) and "Life at City Garden" (U-Sound). Dmitriev continues to be an active collaborator with festivals and tour management in both Europe and Russia.
- 1996 Long Arms Agency was founded in spring 1996 by Sergey Kuryokhin, Nick Dmitriev and Dmitry Rezvan.
